I just got back from Holl's end of year concert. It was real nice mostly because we figured out the secret to concert going. First off after five years of concert going with the current band director as the organizer we have learned a few things. For one thing we came an hour later than the start time. This got us there just a few minutes before Holl played. It also got us a nicer parking place because someone left early. It lasted for yet another hour however. We found some seats by Wyogranny and could feel the hatred of the fellow sufferers who had been there from the beginning. Once again the somewhat larger flute player sat with her back to the audience and obscured Holl but I learned to sit to the left so as to get a better view of the one I came to watch in the first place. I also got to hear Niece's orchestra. I was once again reminded of the degradation of manors in public places. I actually saw a kid walk down the aisle carrying a basketball. Also even after the lights were turned off there was a electric greenish glow from all phones and cameras and camcorders. I am safe in saying that at any time during the concert someone was walking around in the auditorium. Have I ever mentioned that I hate people? That is to say I am disgusted with the general attitude and actions of people in groups larger than say... 15. I am sure that to others I am part of the problem but at least I try to avoid contact with large groups as much as possible. It renewed my soul to hear the last number. It was The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the entire music department participated which included the band, the orchestra, the chorus and all the other music groups in the school. I was happy to see that the song was still allowed to be preformed in public.

You're right! It was chaos. All that set up time! You missed the really fun 10 minute "check," "check," check," microphone parade. That was really fun. The guy who sat in front of me kept putting his hands behind his head and sticking his elbow in the 4 inches of viewing space I had. He also spend several minutes in an audible phone conversation. I glared at the back of his head and chanted "move, move, move" in my head until he moved.
That's why I really hate going to movies right in the exciting part people are checking their text messages, then they you hear them asking "What just happened?" I'm with ya on big crowds. I see it even at church.
I agree society in general have lost the fine art of good manners. I do not understand what is so important that you can't do your phone calls later after the performane or when the movie is over? (Except doctors) My pet peeve is when someone actually uses their cell phone at church! I, for one, do not enjoy this fast pace speed society seems to be stuck on. It's no wonder we are always tired!
I hate crowds. No one seems to have manners of any kind. I two have also seen people text messaging at church. What happened to manners?
I am glad you enjoyed Battle Hymn of the Republic. I thought it turned out really awesome! :-)
Your a party animal to be comfortable with up to 15. If there are more than 5 people I seek a quite corner to limit the number I have to deal with. Church has never been a place I have felt people were truly at their best. I had too many terrible experiences growing up to feel totally comfortable there. We had a 76 Stake Regional Conference yesterday and two men stood off to the side in the room we were in talking loud enough to be a distraction when the prophet began talking and for 5-10 minutes during the talk. What an example to all the kids and their families that their personal interests are more important than the message Christ's annointed representative had to give us. I felt like walking over and asking them to stop or leave the room but felt I would only cause more issues by doing so.
