When I first looked at the cartoon it looked like he was giving his wife the "moon". The wrinkles in the pants looked like he had dropped them, but the words didn't fit my first impression.
To explane: The man has just left his house when it hits him (IT being life in general) and he needs to stop and bend over (as if being hit in the stomach) for a moment to get his courage up before he goes on.

At first I thought he was mooning his wife! I've had that stop and breath deeply moment myself!
