#82 vs Jackson

Yesterday they had a game at Jackson and Wyo sis and I went up to watch. We got there about halfway through the first Quarter and watched as Jackson in the words of #82 "won for the first time in anything". That is in anything he played them. 7th and 8th grade football, basketball and track. One factor may have been that only 20 of the 38 players on the Jackson team were freshmen. The others were Sophomores (11) and Juniors (7) the lightest non freshman was 130# with five over 200#. Now #82 is no light weight at 180# but he is one of the heaviest on the team (Bill Hoopes' grandson (#68) at @170 and 5' 5" with no fat, being a major exception). the majority of the SV freshmen would need their pockets full of rocks to weigh more than 120#. I witnessed many good things being done by #82 such as two pass receptions for over 38 yards combined and a near reception along with several "HI, how ya doin'" tackles of the opposition. I talked with a lady from Jackson who was a true native (third generation) who was watching her grandson and we had a rather pleasant conversation although I couldn't but wonder if it would be so pleasant if we were winning. One of the fathers of a Jackson kid pointed out that #82 was a good basketball player and had given his kid a rather hard time when they competed against each other last year. He didn't realize that I was #82's dad at the time. A complement from your opponents when they don't know who's kid it is, is high praise indeed! We all (Linc, 'Nae and I) went and ate and then shopped for some supplies that SV just doesn't have then drove home. the score was 0-14 by the way.

Way to Linc. Too bad about losing, but praise from the opposing team is nothing to sneeze at. Ray I've sent another package it had a pair of snow-pants for Sparky and Hol's present. It should be there Tues. Or Wed. I forgot to wrap the present, so I Tracey wants to wrap it before you give it to Hol that would be nice. We're doing Solar Ovens and I just forgot to wrap it before I had already taped up the box. Thanks. David

It was very fun to watch the game. I must admit to a fondness for #82 as well. He played well, but as I have said I know diddly about football. I tried to converse intelligently about the game, but I'm sure Linc and Ray saw through my thin disguise. (The only thing about me that is thin by the way.) Linc is so kind he would never say "What! are you nuts?, that's not how football works!" I have learned this year that there are two different teams, the offensive and the defense. I suspect that's one reason I never know what's going on. I mean really, can't just anyone grab the ball and run with it? And if not why not? And what in the ---- is offsides? They look like they're on the field to me. Why can some people run around while they are lined up face to face and not others? Why can't the coaches just come out and tell the players what to do, why does some player have to get worn out running back and forth? If women made up a game it would make sense, so I guess it's clear no woman ever had anything to do with football, except send her perfect sons into battle to ruin their knees and get concussions. But the uniforms are nice. I'm just sayin'.
