What's in a name?

As I am want to do, I was thinking while working. One of the things I was thinking of was what name would I choose for myself if I were to pick my own name instead of having my parents do it for me or more accurately have my grandfather do it for me. Then I was also thinking of what other kinds of name I would have. The results are as follows.
  • Alternative name: Cole
  • Viking name: Soren the large
  • Cowboy name: Buck Mountain
  • Hippie name: Sunshine
  • Pen name: Sven Thorson
  • Indian name: Throws big shadow
  • Street name: Staypuffed
  • Scottish name: Angus Campbell
  • Redneck name: Ray mike
  • Chinese name: Wae to long
  • Hawaiian name: wiitasamoon

Green logic

Sweet Wife came home from her "mandatory" meeting in collage town with this little item. When you go to many of these sorts of events you are showered with all sorts of nick-knacks designed to grab you attention. This particular item is advertised as a chocolate scented pencil made from recycled paper. The tag-line is something like "saving trees one pencil at a time". You will note that this great "green" product comes in an attractive plastic case to keep the lovely chocolate scent (I'm certain the scent is organic) fresh and available. Do I need to point out the irony here or is it as obvious to everyone as it was to me?

Something on the thing

Today as my kids came home from church, (Wife and I had to stay for some meetings) they found this sitting on Oggie. We have no idea who may have given this to us but we have our suspects. I have looked for something like this in sort of thing (pardon the pun) in a passive way but have never looked beyond that. I have thought of taking it out and painting it to match but have thought better of it. Well, whoever gave this to us... thanks!

yippity-split

We have entered the twentieth century. We have gotten ourselves DSL. Now we can waste our time at five times the speed of dial-up!

P.S. Holl got her learners permit today. Now for the nervousness, anxiety and terror that goes with it... and Holl may have feelings too!

Worst of the best

I have been thinking for some time about the worst of the best ever since I came across a site on the web that asked for my opinion of the worst Beatles song (The Balled of John and Yoko). I have been thinking of what would be the worst of other things like... worst dessert? I would say fruit cake. or worst...

  • celebration? (Valentine's Day)
  • vacation? (any big city)
  • type of party? (Democrat... too easy)
  • pop song? (You light up my life)
  • rock and roll song? (
  • movie? (The Fiendish plot of Dr. Foo Man Choo)
  • technology? (cell phone)
  • car? (Pacer)
  • luxury? (Caviar)
  • clothing? (anything made with spandex in XXL)
  • book? (The ones they assign in high school English class)
  • play ground equipment? (marry-go-round)
  • sport? (Soccer)
  • leisure activity? (running)
  • convince? (telephone)
  • type of friend? (back stabber)
  • achievement? (employee of the month)
  • complement? (you're tall)
  • color? (scours green)
  • soda pop? (diet 7-up)
  • thing everybody else seems to like? (olives)
  • church job? (Bishop and above)

Feel free to add to the list of the worst of the best.

Utahans must be proud!

Both Utah Senators voted for the confirmation of Prof. Cass Sunstien. Who you may say? Well he is a rabid animal rights lawyer who among other things thinks animals should have the same rights as humans and should be able to sue in court and is about to regulate everyone to death. You can look up his bio. on w!k!ped!a. This is a very scary dude and your senators, both of them, voted for this bunny hugger.
THROW THE BUMS OUT!

Look out Tommy!

G-man, AKA Tinker, has decided to take up the trombone. I'm not sure why he didn't choose the family instruments (trumpet and flute) maybe because it's been done to death. Anyway, only time and $35 a month will tell how far this will go.

Enzi's plan

Enzi is on the left with Dodd

1) Eliminates unfair tax treatment of health insurance...

"I don't know insurance got unfair treatment."

2) Increases affordable options... through a standard tax deduction.
"?"

3) Ensures affordable health insurance... to low-income individuals through... tax-based subsidy.
"Redistribution of wealth."

4) Provides cross-state pooling...
"Might be a good idea."

5) Blends the individual and group market to expand... portability...
"Could be good."

6) Emphasizes preventive benefits and helps individuals with chronic diseases...
"How will that help them?"

7) Gives you the choice to convert the value of... Medicaid and SCHIP program benefits into Private health insurance...
"More government hand outs?"

8) Saves lives and money by better coordinating health information technology.
"Wow, saves lives! that's powerful government!"

9) Increases access to primary care in rural and frontier areas by helping future providers and nurses pay for their education, and gives seniors more options to receive care in their homes and communities.
"Again spread the government money to who the government deems worthy."

10) Decreases the sky-rocketing cost of health care by restoring reliability in our medical justice system through state-based solutions.
"The most sense he said in all of this"

the "..." in the statements eliminate, in my humble opinion, the editorializing that is in the statements.

Che Regan

At our high school last year the art club painted a mural on the wall of one of the Spanish teachers class room. This mural among other things had a stylized picture of Che Guevara prominently displayed in the middle. I know this because a picture of it was published in the school's news paper. Conserv-teen, after I explained who Che was, talked to said teacher (who is also one of his Uncle's friends, dated Red-neck niece and is the track coach) and he either didn't understand or didn't care that he had a homicidal communist revolutionary painted on his wall. I feel the need to talk to him myself and explain that I don't think having a blood thirsty mass murderer glorified on the wall of a small Wyoming high school is the message we should be putting out there for our kids. There are other South Americans that rate being stylized and painted on walls of high schools who more closely match what our values and ideals are and I hope I can persuade him to fix what I consider a very offensive painting.
