A friend at work gave me some quotes by Mr. Jefferson that I thought were rather timely. I thought I would share a few with you.
- The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
- My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.
- The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
- I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
- The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
- No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
- When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.
I don't remember the exact quote but Ben Franklin said something like: "We need to make being poor as uncomfortable as possible so people will want to quit it."

I like Ben's comment better than Jefferson's. That one about blood and the tree of Liberty has been misused by too many fanatics. I don't necessarily disagree with it, but it seems to excuse some pretty crazy behavior like Timothy McVey. I think we're getting piled up on each other here in SV, so a city would drive me nuts. It's too bad the liberals think the founding fathers were not talking about the "politically correct" world. You know back when people didn't know all the stuff like global warming that we know now! Just a little rant. Sorry
Too bad that we've gotten so far away from those truths. They are words to live by.
